This medium Mere sculpture is crafted from prized Kawakawa greenstone - a beautifully made taonga that showcases deep green tones and darker flecks. Its polished finish enhances the stone’s natural beauty, reflecting the essence of Aotearoa’s treasured greenstone. Resting gracefully on a base of Kauri native wood, it holds a commanding yet elegant presence.
Modelled after the traditional Māori mere once wielded by rangatira (chiefs), it symbolises courage, high status, and spiritual power.
Rooted in centuries of Māori tradition, the mere was historically used in both ceremony and close combat, embodying mana (spiritual energy) and leadership. Today, this revered form continues to represent unity, protection, and respect - serving as a powerful cultural symbol and a meaningful connection to Aotearoa’s rich heritage.
With the base:
27.5cm x 10cm x 12cm (Length x Width x Height)
Durability: While pounamu (greenstone) is celebrated for its robustness, its dense nature makes it vulnerable to shock. Handle with care to maintain its integrity.
Protection: Avoid placing or wearing your pounamu on hard surfaces where it might get chipped.
Wear Often: Wear your pounamu frequently to enhance its shine with your natural skin oils. The cord is durable but will naturally wear over time.
Cleaning: Simply use a soft, damp cloth and mild soap for your pounamu. Beeswax or coconut oil can also be applied to moisturise the stone. Avoid harsh chemicals, as they may harm its surface.
Within NZ courier: $4.50 or Free delivery on orders over $50 (1-2 days)
International delivery: Fees vary depending on country.
Returns: easy returns within 5 working days. Please contact us on hello@arrowtownstonework.co.nz
