What's the meaning of a greenstone bracelet?
Crafted from New Zealand greenstone, our Pounamu bracelets symbolize protection, connection, and aroha for whānau, friends, and loved ones. Each bracelet is handwoven and adorned with river-tumbled stones, unique in shape and colour, carrying their own mana and wairua (spirit). These bracelets make meaningful gifts for life's special moments—whether celebrating a pregnancy, an anniversary, graduation, wedding, or a significant birthday. They also mark achievements like completing a journey, starting a new chapter, or overcoming challenges. Personalise your bracelet with a message, symbol, or story to create a taonga (treasure) that honors the bond and memories you share.

Do I need to wear the greenstone bracelet on a particular arm?
You can wear your pounamu bracelet on whichever arm feels most comfortable for you. More importantly, wear it as much as possible so it can rest against your skin. Over time, it will absorb your skin’s natural oils, helping to maintain its shine and strengthen its connection to your wairua (spirit, soul). How do I take care of my greenstone bracelet?

What happens if the cord of my greenstone bracelet frays or snaps?
Life’s adventures can sometimes cause bracelet cords to fray or break. Our whānau can expertly rebind your bracelet with a new handwoven, adjustable black cord to restore its beauty and function. Simply purchase our Bracelet Rebinding Service for $19.50, which includes the repair of one bracelet with a new cord. For more details, see the Bracelet Rebinding Service page.

Can I get my greenstone bracelet engraved?
Yes, you can personalise your pounamu bracelet with engraved words, symbols, or meaningful messages. Choose from our symbol sheet, featuring over 40 popular designs, or customise your piece with words in various fonts from our engraving menu. This personalisation adds a unique touch, transforming your pounamu bracelet into a treasured taonga (treasure) that captures your special moments and connections.

Is your pounamu blessed?
While we recognise the significance of pounamu as a taonga, we do not bless our pieces or carvings. However, we encourage those who purchase pounamu to consider blessing it themselves, especially before gifting, as this can add personal meaning. For guidance on how to bless pounamu, please refer to the answer below.

How can I bless pounamu?
Blessing pounamu is a personal choice, often linked to the significance of gifting. In Māori culture, concepts like tapu (sacredness) and noa (the removal of tapu) are central to the tradition of blessing. You can seek guidance from a Kaumatua or local Marae for traditional practices, or perform a personal blessing by cleansing the pounamu in a river or stream with a karakia (prayer). When saying your karakia, you may choose words and intentions that reflect your hopes for the wearer, such as protection, strength, or connection. Sharing the blessing with the recipient can add even more meaning to the gift.
